Snowsport England recognises that young people have a key role in the development of our sport and believe that it is important to recognise the commitment to and passion for skiing which young skiers show. They represent the next generation of instructors and coaches. In the light of this and after much discussion Snowsport England has changed the minimum age requirement for candidate instructors attending a level 1 instructor course. Currently the minimum age for those attending a level 1 training course is 16 years of age.
In the future aspiring instructors and coaches [who must be]:
Members of a recognised ski club, and/or
Working towards a recognised qualification in sport or physical education [for example GCSE PE]
Will be able to attend a level 1 training course once they reach 14 years of age. On completion of this course they will be awarded a certificate showing that they are level 1 trained instructors. They will then be able to work towards completing the further units required for assessment at 16 years of age and above. For information on courses currently available at www.uksnowsports.co.uk
